All four are iron-block designs with conservative factory tuning, simple port fuel injection and strong rotating assemblies. That is why they last. The failures that do show up are age-related and well documented:
- Intake manifold gasket seepage — most common on the early 1999–2001 trucks.
- Knock sensors — they sit in the valley under the intake and fail once moisture gets past the seals.
